Overview

GoldPesa is a gold-backed cryptocurrency with two ERC20 tokens trading on the Ethereum blockchain. In Q4 2021, we launched the GoldPesa Option (GPO) token — offered at a discount for one week to drive traffic to our decentralised platform. I was responsible for the full user interface, ensuring the final solution was simple, accessible, and scalable for users who had never interacted with crypto before.

The platform evolved into a full GoldPesa Wallet, enabling token holders to deposit, bridge, stake, and swap their tokens on the GoldPesa decentralised exchange — powered by Uniswap.

The Problem

Considering the complexity of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology: how do you sell a token to an average person with no technical experience?

With 5,200+ blockchain startups on AngelList, the space was crowded and intimidating. Our research surfaced three core user pain points:

Making the initial crypto purchase feels overwhelming and risky
Gas fees on Ethereum are expensive, limiting transaction frequency
Users don't understand how to generate returns with minimal risk

Research

We conducted user interviews and a competitive analysis of blockchain products to understand how the best-in-class handled onboarding non-technical users. Key takeaway: to succeed in this market, you need to educate and guide while simplifying. Products that assumed blockchain literacy consistently failed with new adopters.

Solution

A clean, guided interface that removes friction at every step and educates users as they go. The product addressed all three pain points:

A step-by-step onboarding flow that teaches users how to connect a MetaMask wallet and purchase GPO with USDC
A cross-chain bridge between Ethereum L1 and Polygon L2 to dramatically reduce gas fees
A staking contract where users can lock tokens to earn a yield risk-free
